What is a rust preventative?
Rust preventatives are a special coat that adds a protective barrier on critical machine areas or other sensitive metal areas. These areas represent surfaces which would affect fit at assembly or the final finish of the product. At KVF we use a number of different types of rust preventatives depending on your project’s needs. These include:
Almco 503R-1
- Water-based
- Provides 3-6 months of protection
- Weldable
- Can be filtered and applied to parts requiring very clean surfaces
Perkote 10-385
- Water-based synthetic
- Provides up to 9 months of protection
- Can weld over this coating
Barsol L-239
- Oil-based
- Provides 1-2 years of protection
- May be dipped, brushed or sprayed on
Depending on your budget and the type of project you want completed will affect what preventative coating makes the most sense for you.
